Had a lunch at the Playwright Restaurant sitting in the warmth of the sun--vegetable soup for me, potato leek soup for Janice. Soups have been outstanding.

Sometimes, you wake up with the best of intentions but nothing goes your way. That's kind of what happened to us on Saturday. We intended to do a nice 9km hike, the Spinc and Glenealo Valley, in Glendalough. We piled in the car bright and early and pulled out of our parking space. ... to belong to the Kells Priory, a medeival monastery that sits in ruins about a mile down the road. There is a main house, a guest house with six or so guest rooms/suites and the breakfast solarium, and a barn/garage. The houses are build from local field stone and reclaimed stone from castle ruins. The interiors are incredibly cozy with overstuffed chairs arranged around large hearths in the common areas, and beds piled high with quilts in the bedrooms. ...

... back down to the bus, we stopped at the old monastic city, which has the remains of a cathedral and bell tower, as well as a graveyard. The graveyard was very interesting, since it had both recent graves and some that were hundreds of years old! The cathedral dates back to the 6th century, when Christianity first arrived in Ireland, and fell out of use in 1214.

When we finished at the monastic city, it was time to catch St. Kevin's Bus back to Dublin!
