    87 degree temps does not encourage fall colors! However, a stop at Ben @ Jerry's eased the warm day. Crossed from VT to NY via Lake Champlain ferry ($23). Ausable Chasm was worth the stop...and provided a scenic hike. Colorful trees amidst interesting layers of rock were amazing! Staying at Black Bear Camping in NY for 3 nights allowed us to explore the area. Even tho we missed our scheduled West Point ...

    ... cabin our buddies rent each year around Labor day. After the weekend, returned to home base NYC for a couple of weeks before flying to Seattle to begin the next adventure.

    In Fern Lake tradition we snap a shot of the group prior to departure from the cabin. For this performance the role of Jim Kieding is being performed by the Green Alien.

    ... we were ready to eat some dinner already! Dave again came through, finding a gem of a pizza joint in downtown Burlington called Verita. Good God this was good eats! The Marguerita Pizza we had was so rustic and tasty with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil and parmesan cheese on a out-of-this-world crust. Dave had a nice simple salad that included warm goat cheese and I enjoyed a great local beer, The Shed's Mountain Ale that ...

    ... trees. We had hoped that the leaf-turning would have already got to the yellow/red stage up in Vermont but we are still very much in the green stage with just the odd tree a different colour.

    We are staying in The Hilton because Burlington hotels get booked up quite far in advance for the leaf-turning season. It was a shame that we couldn't cancel our booking as Renee and Harry had recommended The Willard Street Inn. Anyway, ...
