... mountains, and it didn't disappoint! Even the hotels and fast food restaurants stuck with the alpine theme! We soaked in the atmosphere for a bit before heading to the cabin, which was an adventure in itself! It truly was in the middle of nowhere, with dirt tracks of at least 30 degree inclination proving a challenge for our wee Ford Fiesta. We managed though, and the result was so very worth ...

... people just had longevity in their genetics. Elizabeth lived through a time when slavery was rampant, then a civil war, the abolishment of slavery and it's aftermath, World War I, and women's suffrage, just to name a few historical events. Music gave me something constant to keep me ...

My journey started semi-roughly when most of my gear didn't make it to Atlanta with me. Thankfully, it ended up at the hostel the next morning and I was able to pack it up before catching the shuttle to the start of the trail.

Well, almost to the start. We actually had to walk a mile the wrong way up Springer Mountain to reach ...

... it our base camp for a few days. Forest Hills Resort, 13 miles out of town is a large farm with individual log cabins that can be rented. Ours featured a hot tub, fire place, wrap-around porch and beautiful views of mountain forest. Horse riding, wagon trails and a intimate chapel are all perks of Forest Hills but we opted for the hiking trials instead. Breakfast is included but dinners can be reserved. Well worth saving ...
