... their boat. Glen tries to act so bad and such a grump, but he doesn't have us fooled. Both he and Lois are such kind and fun loving people and we value their friendship. We also were able to fill our little freezer with salmon and halibut so we accomplished what we came to Alaska for. They also caught some beautiful, huge shrimp. Then the repairman called Thursday morning that our truck was ready. We picked it up and drove it around for a little while. I ...

... sights. They were awesome! We experienced Alaska's wilderness, Prince William Sound's majestic glaciers, Valdez's busy harbor and the terminus of the world famous TransAlaska Oil Pipe Line. Captain Fred Rodolf shared his wealth of knowledge of and enthusisam for Prince William Sound and it's ecosystem, gained from 30 years of experience on these waters, with lively narration. The only trouble was, he talked and ...

Little Switzerland

Little Switzerland is what it looks like here. As the day goes by, the scenery changes with the clouds and fog. Today we went from high clouds and overcast to sprinkles to heavy fog to sunshine and then high fog. Every time we look out at the mountains, there is different scenery. It is never the same. I wish that I could capture all of this with the camera, but I can't. We are still waiting to go fishing with Glen and Lois, but life is not boring with this beautiful ...

... alongside the boat and under the bow of the boat. We also saw the sealions laying around on the shore and then some more puffins inside the caves or crevices that he drove us into. From there we went to the Columbian Glacier. Couldn't believe it, but we went right through the ice that was floating. It was 38 degrees by now that we were in the ice. The icebergs where the most beautiful blue and we just eased our way through them. I was ...

COLUMBIA GLACIER CRUISE

... approxicately 18 miles to go before reaching bedrock on shore. This retreat is truly "history in the making". <br>The birds and mammals of Prince William Sound are really fun to see. My favorite is the Tufted Puffin, but I did not get a good picture of any we saw. There were many Sea Otters and they sort of hung out there waiting for us, as did the hundreds of Stellar Sea Lions. They were lounging ...

Beautiful Glacier & Wildlife Cruise

... ice burgs all over. We could get close to the Meares Glacier. Pictures can tell you more than I could ever put into words. I took over 80 pictures so it will be really hard picking out which ones to send you. History lesson: In Alaska there are 30,000 square miles of glacier ice, covering 5% of the state. Glacier ice is blue. The scenery along the cruise was just fabulous. Every turn displayed more beauty. We also saw bald eagle, puffin, steller sea ...

On the road to Valdez, AK

... and the guys had pizza. Well it's getting late, and the morning will be here before you know it. We're off to the Alaskan Ferry system for a trip from Valdez to Whittier. It will take us, as well as our minivan, to our destination across the Prince William Sound. Then it's onward to Seward, which is supposed to be the center for the Kenai Fjords National Park. Sorry I didn't have time nor the energy to load our pics - later......

Day 8: Worthington Glacier and Valdez

... to even climb the stairs at home, and now here I am on top of a glacier in Alaska. After a few hours of hiking and climbing on ice, we returned to Valdez late afternoon. After having an early dinner at a local fast food place we walked around for a while, but on one hand it was too cold for us to stay out, and on the other hand we started feeling all the fatigue muscles, so we went back to the hotel.

... a booking or ticket for this charter, Fortunately he was pre-warned by the receptionist at the RV park to take the three pieces of paper with him, (IE: Prepaid booking slip Fishing Licence and Derby ticket entry) Out comes the correct receipt, Dave (remember Dave 'The Skipper') then looks at the other group and says "we have a problem, I can only take 6 people and we have seven here!" Oh boy this is a challenge are where Rick's thoughts take him. The group spokesman said "yes we ...

... the town and this wonderful RV park. First on Rick's list was booking a fishing charter trip to go catch a Halibut. Of course he requires a licence and had to enter a fishing contest that runs for the season with a $15,000 prize for the biggest fish. (They will have to advise any further entrants after tomorrow that I have won, Surely the Grand daddy of Halibut has been waiting all these years for me to arrive?) Earnie inquired about a white water ...
