Can't believe we're camping on the shores of Lake Champlain!!! We've had incredible experiences in this area of New York. This state continues to keep us on our toes!! We had an amazing hike through the Ausable Chasm where the river was rushing through a canyon of steep walls with incredible force (especially after several big storms the days before our visit.
Then yesterday we took a drive into the Adirondack mountains & rode our first gondola up the slope ...
... do a short hike in the morning and spend the afternoon in downtown Lake Placid. We slapped on our wet dirty trail clothes and packed a backpack for Mt. Jo. Dad stayed for a week at the beginning of the summer and a week at the end. We stayed for six more ...

He was also quite interested to know how we bought a car. The second one we met was obviously having a bad day standing outside in the cold and thankfully all we had to do was give him our car keys while we went inside to meet ...
10 August, 2001 with a return on 15 August,2001. Also hiked here 2003 and on several other ocassions. Best time to visit is summer, at least for me. Enough winter experience in Ottawa so don't need even more. For us the reason to go there, was to climb the 46 peaks. Each of these 46 peaks is to be 4000 feet or more in altitude. Began to hike the easier ones ...
