After spending the previous day on secondary roads I spent most of the day on freeways … and was terrified that I’d never get there. The freeways are very fast and BUSY with traffic. I stopped at a rest area and crossed the freeway by way of an overpass to have a look at a view from the other side and could hardly stay upright because of the wind, so, clearly the wind was contributing to my fear on the road.

... then headed out onto the balcony overlooking Charlottesville with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance. The height of them was incredible! Not quite the same as the height of the Rockies but even in the distance they seemed to tower over the surrounding landscape. We took some photos as it was such a nice day and after buying some apples and peaches with ideas to make apple cakes and crumbles we headed back to the car for the drive home. ...
