... a brief survey paddle last night and had hoped to wake to a gorgeous sunrise illuminating the flaming trees along the banks; but instead we got low clouds shrouding the mountain peaks and hiding what little sun was on offer. We paddled out anyway and I fished a little towards the western end and then Shar decided to explore for an inlet.

We found it fairly easily and she wound into it while I fished at its mouth among the grasses ...

... and their historical society has done a wonderful job of marking sites, but I find it loud and busy for a small town. The park area we are in however is very peaceful.... all we here are ducks and blue jays. We will move on to Lock # 5 in a day or so where we are told we can dock overnight in a pretty park, and then on to Mechanicville at Lock #3. ...

... I hadn't moved at all. The water was pretty low but mostly we could paddle along. There were probably a half dozen "rapids" along the way - none seemed dangerous - not really fast moving or much swirling, but a lot of potential of getting stuck. It was a very pleasant paddle - great clouds - the water wasn't that cold even though I never took off my wool socks and goretex pants.

... our tent and packing up the camp. It is really nice having Alex at an age to help. We had the camp broken down and packed in no time at all. Off to town, we had a nice little breakfast to fuel up for the day.
