I gave him his pants and a bag of the voodoo chips and continued on to columbus. The drive was nearly 1,000 miles and took about 15 hours. I never want to drive that much at once again. When I got to Roya's around 3 in the morning, I crawled into her bed, told her about my trip, and then passed ...

... bike, and a road pointed in some intended direction.

The idea of checking boxes in the sidebar of a guidebook goes away. It's better to get off the beaten path and actually explore. Find out what works, leave the stuff that doesn't behind.

Run light, run free. Try to be more like the three protagonists in the Last Mohican. Make distance you friend, embrace the unknown, and ride up and over the rough stuff. Works on the bike ...
