Historical Traveler Reviews The Henry Guest House Bath
Wonderful place to stay in Bath
We stayed at the Henry Guest House June 1-4 and could not have been more pleased with it. It's in a great location very close to the Abbey and train station and a half-block from a large, convenient car park. The rooms are comfortable (including the beds) and the breakfasts were delicious. But the real stars of the place are the owners, whose only goal in life seems to be ensuring that their guests have a memorable stay in Bath. They had all sorts of information about sightseeing options in Bath and the surrounding towns, and even loaned us their road atlas so we could find our way around south Wales. And every one of the restaurants they recommended were fantastic. If I'm ever in Bath again, I will definitely stay at the Henry!
Sue & Derik are lovely!
I was traveling with a group of 7. They made us feel like family. The rooms were comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful. They really went out of their way to help us get a tour booked prior to our departure. Their location is wonderful. I hope to stay there again in the future!
A delight!
What a great find! So close to the rail station (easy 5 minute walk even with luggage) and the Abbey and Roman Baths just around the corner. CLEAN rooms and great breakfasts. Biggest plus, Sue and Derek the owners. Charming, witty, funny, and helpful. All shared bathrooms, but the place was booked full and we had no wait at anytime for showers or WC. Highly recommned this delight of a guest house.
Great hotel/B&B
The Henry is a fabulous bed and breakfast in a prime location of Bath. Rates for its twin rooms, £60, is great value and includes a very nice traditional hot English breakfast in the morning. Rooms at The Henry are impeccably clean and its owners live in the building and are overwhelmingly friendly. The one slight downside is that the rooms do not have en suites. But that's well worth overlooking.
Great value. enjoyable stay
This quaint B&B is located just a few blocks from the train station and is a 5 min walk to the Roman Baths. We stayed just one night but would recommend to those looking for affordable accomodation/central location which was difficult to find. The house was under renovation in March but that did not put a damper on our stay. Great breakfast, and very clean room! Sue and Derek were friendly hosts and suggested a great neighbourhood restaurant for dinner, The Wife of Bath. Contact them at --------. They have limited number of rooms so book early.
Wonderful stay -- wish it could have been longer!
We stayed in four hotels during our vacation, and this was my absolute favorite of all of them. The owners are amazing -- so kind, and they seemed very proud of their city and made me feel like they genuinely wanted to make sure I had a great time there. They are also very knowledgeable about what to see and do and where to eat -- we went with pretty much all of their recommendations and enjoyed ourselves immensely. And the breakfast in the morning was fantastic, too -- the breakfast room is so bright and cheery, and the owners really want to make sure you get the meal you want. They even offer seconds! The location of this hotel can't get any better -- it's just a five-minute walk to the Roman baths and the Abbey and a short walk from the train station as well. And don't fret about the shared bathrooms (there are two full bathrooms, plus a separate toilet and a separate shower). They're immaculate. As for the room, ours (a double) was small but not suffocating. The furniture was a bit older, but it was still very comfortable, and there was also a sink in the room, which was convenient.
My 3rd time staying
I agree that The Henry is a great place to stay. It is very centrally located. If you come by train or car it's easy to get to. Sue and Derek, the owners, are working hard to improve the decor. The beds are all new. Breakfast good with freash fruit. Rooms are not en-suite but very good price and service for the money.
A fine and friendly stay
Perfectly acceptable accommodations. My girlfriend and I booked the stay through their website. We had tried a few other hotels and B+B's, but as soon as we contacted those the prices surreptitiously rose. One hotel, after I wrote them to tell them that they were out of my price range, replied and asked how much I could pay. I felt as though they just wanted how ever much was in my pocket. The Henry's rate was as advertised; £25 a head per night. The proprietors replied to our room request promptly and politely.
The room was simple and overlooked neighbor's gardens and the stone backs of houses. Quaint and British. The facilities are not en suite, but are convenient and clean and even though the house was fully booked we felt as though we had it to ourselves. Beds were comfortable and sheets were clean. Extra pillows and blankets were supplied.
Both mornings of our stay we had the English Grill for breakfast.
Standard yummy greasy english B+B grub: fried tomatoes, thick salty bacon, etc. Fresh fruit or yoghurt. Press coffee or tea. Very good.
Staff was pleasant, but pretty much left us alone, which is fine by me.
Overall the Henry House did us fine. High-end no-frills, right around the corner from the Roman Baths and a very short walk from the train station.
Exceptionally treated as if in your own home!
The couple running this are exceptionally like your next door neighbour:they welcome you, and if no accommodation available, they proffer the following night or the previous one. Always time for all ages of clientele...and they make a point of telling you about what they have been up to,on any return visit as well as a real interest in yourself! Excellently situated for Bath city...and loads of knowledge of surrounding area.
Super Location, Great Value!
My daughter and I recently spent three weeks touring England, Scotland and Ireland. We spent three lovely nights at the Henry Guest House in Bath. We had chosen it from a reccomendation from Rick Steves. We were SO SO pleased! Sue and Derek, the proprietors were so helpful and friendly! It was by far the best deal we had found in the city center of Bath. When we arrived we were surprised to see that the location was just excellent! It is JUST around the corner from the Roman Baths! It is truely nothing fancy, but an ideal location with a great price, quite clean and the most friendly owners of all the places we stayed. Sue went out of her way every morning to cater to our finicky vegetarian diets. We would certainly urge anybody on a budget to stay here, but call in advance ( and ask for a room on one of the lower floors) as they were booked up every night we were there.
