      What do you write?

When someone close to you goes away, what do you do? I mean nothing morbid by that. I'm talking about boot camp. One of my best friends shipped out to Parris Island last week and we agreed to be pen pals while she was away. As a writer, I’m thrilled to have someone to write to; I can finally use that ‘old-timey’ phrase:

Cranston is a pretty well to do neighborhood so we were surrounded by some pretty snazzy looking business people. It took me about 10 minutes of rushing around to realize that the phone ...

... br> We braved the surroundings and discovered a decent Italian restaurant within walking distance and enjoyed a canneloni and salad, with backing accompaniment by a crooning combo singe an eclectic mix of Frank Sinatra, Eric Clapton and other standards that blurred into the background. Is there a favourite American dish, I wonder, apart from grits? Luckily, the motel has a guest laundry so we could now be squeaky clean for our short spell in New York.
