    ... fed meat and poultry.

One of the things I like best about the British is that they hold on to their traditions. Here, butchers wear hats. I’ve noticed it in Weegmanns pork shop, in small game and meat shops, in a supermarket and here in the farm store. Almost all wear fedoras. Seriously: Fedoras. I decided I wanted a photo, so I hunkered behind a shelf of preserves, zoomed in ...

... equipped for dinner, stimulated by the place and getting our bearings. The space is good.   The meadow and river were open and bright and it was 20 degrees and sunny, bliss. People were out bikes, dogs, walks, runs and pregnant women with pushers, a great community space. It's supposed to be a warm dry weekend. The city centre is scattered with the massive edifices of past empire, co-opped Greek columns, all pomp and declarative of status. More exploring tomorrow. The streets were ...

... I was a tad disappointed to find that this farm had recently removed the crops which would have made the circle possible. We had definitely found the spot though, because there was a stern warning card left for those who would come to witness this particular sight for themselves. Not very sporting, I dare say.

As we drove back we noticed strange patterns in the fields of Wernham Farm which appeared ...

    ... in the area.

I arrived in Wolvercote a few minutes too late to visit Tolkien's grave, as the cemetery shuts at dusk in Winter.

Driving back to Bristol on the M4 was a bit of fun. We only get to drive 110km/hr on Australian highways and and between 130 and 150 seemed the going rate on the M4. I didn't see any posted speed limites so would be fascinated to know what the speed is supposed to be.
