Had a big sleep. Was going to do a short walk but when we were about to start the rain came pouring in. Arun and I decided to stay at the hostel while Pete went around Rydal and Grasmere. ... shop was well stocked with travel and walking gear. I was even quite taken with the Made in Cumbria shop and its array of gifts, all made locally; very difficult to not find something for yourself or as a present.

The food hall prides itself for serving only local produce and baking all their own cakes and there are food events held throughout the year with opportunities to take a course or find out more.

His son, Donald, later set consecutive records in the 50's and 60's, and at one point, actually held the land and water speed records at the same time.
