About to leave...
So I am about to leave for Australia...very scary but unbelievably exciting at the same time! I am going to miss everyone so much, but I will always be able to stay in touch via Facebook, iMessage, Whatsapp, Viber etc the list goes on!

Boing!
... it was warm enough to sit outside with bare arms and then took the short loop around the forest. We counted 5 butterflies (three Peacocks, one Brimstone and one unidentified, probably a Tortoiseshell) and numerous Chiffchaffs. Lots of nice dogs out enjoying the fresh air too.

We had read that there were two Spoonbills in the area, one favouring the Burton Mere RSPB Reserve and one often on the marshes near the Boat House pub in Parkgate. We went for the 2nd bird first. Parkgate was packed with hundreds of day trippers. It took us longer to get along the short stretch of frontage than it did to get through the Mersey Tunnel!

Abington Park and church
... d noticed some Common Gulls on the main lake the day before so went to have a look at them to see if they could give any clues to the identity of the Ravensthorpe Reservoir bird. There were a couple with the bill patterns that were similar but they had much less yellow on the tip and Julie was of the view that the Ravensthorpe gull had a fiercer expression than those at the park. Ring-billed Gull is looking likely.

Rain, rain go away ...
... in force and are probably planning their breeding season there, so the reserve might not be quiet again during daylight for several months. At least by now the worst of the rain had passed by and there were even a few breaks in the clouds.
