Historical Traveler Reviews Brighton House

Very enjoyable stay

from skinnywhitetrash

A very enjoyable stay, helped by the perfect weather. The Brighton House cannot be faulted really: good proximity to the seafront, shops, restaurants and pubs of the area; clean, comfortable room with an immaculate en-suite; a very enjoyable breakfast - a change from the usual fry-up; and friendly, helpful proprietors. My only quibble was the soft bed, but that's down to personal taste really.

Quick tip, try to book a slot at Regency Secure Parking rather than the faceless NCP. Malcolm will look after you - and your car.

Thanks to all concerned for a relaxing break.

Excellent

from patnsue

Charming establishment situated in a square on the seafront. Close to all local amenities, seafront, restaurant, Brighton Centre etc. We were upgraded free of charge to the four poster bed room - large and well furnished.

Breakfast was a delight, no English offered, but the cooked meat, fish, cereal etc was all organic and delicious.

Would recommend.

Best of its Kind

from Fruehauf

When my romantic Quadrophenia related illusions about Brighton had been demolished within minutes in the mid-eighties, I decided not to come back forever. I can tell you I would have missed something if I had stuck to that decision.

Last summer some London friends asked me to come over and as the wheather was still a bit too hot for the city, we went to Brighton to spend a couple of days by the sea. Following a recommendation we booked the Brighton House Hotel at Regency Square.

I must say I my feelings about Brighton were mixed meanwhile, because I had seen some frightening TV reports on London youngsters spending their weekends there comletely screwed, but our time there was a complete success. Not least owing to the place we stayed at and the guys running it.

Christine and Lucho, a German-Dutch couple and both very international, are open minded, always good fun to talk to and not square in the least. After five days in their hotel I would say, these are guys you would go on holiday with. They bought the place not long ago and run it very professionally. As it is more a bed & breakfast than a hotel you miss the concierge desk, but you simply don't need it. Those guys are helpful in almost any concern. They know what to see, where to go to meet the crowd you want to hang out with and how to get a good table at a decent place of your taste even an hour before you want to eat.

After some British bed & (if this was not enough) breakfast experiences before, the Brighton House Hotel was one of my most pleasant surprises: You will miss tacky furniture as well as do-or-die design crammed into to keep up with zeitgeist. What you find is a comfy lobby that is tastefully furnished with simple wooden tables and chairs, where unbelievable breakfast is served in the morning. Christine and Lucho buy just best organic food for their guests and serve fruits as fresh as their stylish flower decoration around you, perfectly boiled eggs and a wide assortment of cheese. Even the salmon tastes like just smoked, which is hard to find these days. Unlike most other bed & breakfasts in Britain, both Italian Cappuccino and Espresso is available.

Hen nights and stag nights are not welcome at this place, i.e. you are not endangered to miss ear plugs and sleeping pills because of impertinent neighbours. As the hotel is in the centre but not right in front of the boardwalk, everything is just around the corner, but you don't get disturbed by anyone during the night and you don't need your car that can be parked at a private garage next to the door.

The rooms are furnished homely, very clean and the beds make you forget about your own. The bathrooms are also very clean and beautiful (marble instead of cheesy carpet floor). Compared to a five star hotel the rooms are not huge, but as not all of us stayed at the same place, I can say, you may hardly find bigger rooms for less money.

And there is this staircase. Well, I would not recommend retired people to stay on the top floor, but as she once said, she would never use elevators and walk up every stair she can, Grace Kelly could be an argument for living under the roof.

I regretted to have to say goodbye after five days and I am still not sure, if I really want to go to Nice next year.

Mixed feelings

from anlo

The good things first: The hotel is in a beautiful building, very good location, not directly at the seafront but not far from it. This is why we selected this hotel because all the seafront hotels also face a very busy road with a lot of noise.

The hosts and staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast is excellent, continental style but with a great selection of cheese, ham and even salmon, delicious fresh fruit, and really good coffee.

However, there were a few things we did not like. First, when booking a room on the third or fourth floors, people who are not extremely fit should be aware that the stairs are very steep (and exhausting). Then our room was very small so that there was not even room for a small table and two chairs (just a kind of stool for one person was provided). Our room (third floor) was in need of some refurbishment, e.g. the paint was coming off the ceiling in some places, and the carpet looked a bit worn. The sash windows provide very little sound insulation. Although there was very little traffic around, a lot of noise was coming in at night from people shouting and screaming in the street. We also thought that 90 Pounds was a bit excessive for what we got, although the price level seems to be generally high in Brighton. For just ten pounds more we got a wonderful hotel in London, with air conditioning, a beautiful rear garden, a minibar, modern furniture (and table and chairs).

Great Brighton B&B

from lymingelass

Just spent a night at Brighton House. Great place clean with a really relaxed atmosphere. We stayed in room 36 which was surprisingly quite. Close to everything. Would also recommend regency secure parking really friendly and definitely secure. Overall I would say this is one of the best B& B's I have stayed in anywhere and I would recommend this to everyone.

Too hot!

from anonymous

We boiled in our bed! Maybe things are done diffrent in England but don't see the comfort in big duvets in the middle of summer. We didn't really want to complain because everything elase was so nice and you could tell they make a real effort but we just couldn't get to sleep well in the big duvets when it's boiliing outside. better luck next time.

Come to brighton if only for this B&B

from anonymous

My wife and i have been coming to Brighton on business for years. We always moved around between the B&B's never being too satisfied. Now that the new owners have taken over at the Brighton House we feel we have found our place in Brighton. In fact, we recently took a weekend break to Brighton, no work just pleasure (for the first time ever). Our decision was made primarily because we knew the Brighton House would be a comfortable place to stay. We thought they deserved this review. Keep up the good work.

Great Breakfast

from anonymous

The Brighton House is a secret tip. Looking like all the regency buildings from the outside it has a clean comfortable unique inside. Its style is not very regency nor very Boutique. Prices are realy ok and you are in the centre of Brighton. Plus you get a great continental breakfast. We enjoyed our stay enormus. Thanks

Great Little Hotel

from anonymous

We stayed at the "Brighton House Hotel" for two days (Between 22nd-24th August) after been recommended by a neighbouring B&B.

The staff were friendly & helpful and the rooms were clean & well furnished in a Regency Period Style.

Breakfast was very good with a great selection of food available.

The location was about 5 Minutes away from Brighton Town Centre with an underground car park just opposite the hotel meaning you didn't have to drag your luggage very far.

Hotel is also located less than a minute away from the beach.

Highly recommended
