... was a series of fountains in the shape of fish. No idea what that was about.

I thought I was also drive to Lier which is a smaller town but it took me ages to get even near it as the queues of traffic were crazy. No idea what was going on but the traffic was worse than Brussels. In the end I got fed up and decided to go straight to my B&B as I was tired and fed up at this point. My love for Belgium had really waned....

... have to play charades. I got off at Central station 45 minutes later and jumped straight on the City Sightseeing bus. These buses are great if you only have a limited time in a city. They show you the highlights and then you can decide what to go back and see later. I knew I wanted to see the Atomium and I knew it was a fair way out of the city so the hop-on, hop-off bus was the perfect solution.

... the rest of the day in Mechelen rather than venture to another city. Surprisingly it is really cold. The temperatures were in the 20s last week but nowhere near this now. We noticed that people are wearing coats and scarves and we were not well equipped to cope with this ourselves. ... the limits of my sanity. I knew if we changed one more thing, we would not make it to Amsterdam tonight. I’m glad I didn’t listen because we would have been fined for riding the earlier train without reservations. Our reserved train was completely booked.
