It was such a dreadful rush to get everything sorted in Seaford that I had no time to dwell on thoughts of being away for a year. I was neither scared nor excited, just really glad to have got virtually everything done before I locked up the house, handed the keys to the agent and left. The first campsite was fairly basic but with my well equipped van that didn't matter. What was important was the location right inside Savernake Forest and only a ...

We hiked 104 miles in 8 days. We arrived in Bath at 1:30 then traveled a circuitous route through the city up more hills above town then down through Victoria Park ending in front of the Bath Abbey where there is a medallion that we touched ending our trek. I had thought of taking a train to Milton Keynes, one of the first "planned cities," via Coventry where I could see the cathedral, but after breakfast felt so shockingly liverish and weak and tired that decided to give that all a miss. As it happened, I felt much better as the day wore on and had a very interesting and worthwhile one here rather than sitting around on trains and stations so I'm sure it was a good decision.

... didn't know of much to do in Oxford so we jumped on the big red bus. Well that didn't take long and after completing one lap of the tour we jumped off and visited the National History Museum. Believe it or not that took up a full day and since the tickets for the red bus went missing we couldn't jump back on so we walked back home and did some over due washing at the laundry ...

Go west Mann - to the countryside

... and just past Reading bright sunshine! The garden was beautiful and big with a huge laden apple tree, and we had the vast lawn all to ourselves. What a feast, Proscuitto, Salami, salad, focaccia and cheese. Washed down with a jug of Pimms followed by Eton mess.

Lots of laughter and catching up - then it was time for me to get to the station to catch my train. Thanks for the lift Richard. A really great day, nothing like the English countryside on a sunny day.
