... the local area and go for Fish. Both were delicious, we spoke to the waitress for a few minutes as she had been to Europe in the last year or so. Visits to Rome, Germany somewhere and her favorite London. After dinner we return to the hotel for a drink in the bar, a limited offering with only beer, wine and soft drinks available. Since we weren't leaving until 1100 because of adverse tide in the Cape Fear, we didn't pay much mind ---- except, when 1100 rolled around, the pea soup fog was still with us. I thought it would soon burn off but was wrong. We traversed the stretch from St. James Marina to Southport at idle, barely making two knots SOG. At Southport, with nearly zero viz, ...

... ate during war. Apparently not much, cornmeal mush and foraged food and rotten meat. yuck. After melting my feet for about 10 minutes with these very "interesting" southern, reenactment folk, I mounted my bike and biked to the end of the peninsula where there were a handful of kite-surfers flying and gliding in front of the descending sunset. I was frozen. I was biking with my merino wool shirt, merino sweater, down jacket, leggings, wool socks, and tennis ...
