... guy swearing at the door because he couldn't open it, he then proceeded to vent his anger by relieving himself in the corner of the room. Now i have lived in student accomodation and seen alot of crazy stuff, but maybe i'm getting old because this was too much even for me. I checked out at 9am. Found a nicer hostel for the same price and ventured out into the city. Now Melbourne isn't particularly reknowned for anything, and doesn't really have much history to it ...

My Birthday ADVENTURE

... but I never seen so many peeps with the same birthday as me in one place all at the same time.I tried to get a free birthday slice but no one in Aussie seems to give out free stuff for bday peeps. Instead the waiter said he would pay for it if I would go out on a date with him: how forward. He was a cheeky, sly waiter. I laughed and said I'll take the cake with no date??? he declined.... so no cake for me and no date for him... Besides Dane and Megs made ...

Living in the Gold Rush

... years ago. Port Fairy was one of those towns. We left Port Fairy and the Ocean road and turned north and headed up to the town of Halls Gap in the Grampians National Park. Once leaving the coast and entering the farmlands of the state of Victoria, the drought that is gripping the region could be seen. It was like entering a brown landscape. Many of the towns in the area are on strict water restrictions. They encourage ...

Great Ocean Road

... already. You see charred gum tree trunks sprouting leaves, grass and kangeroo tails (actually a bush) Next day we headed down to the coast to see some fabulous sandstone formations, the Bay of Islands, the Apostles. Stopped at Kennett Lake and saw koala bears in the wild. They rarely move as they sleep most of the day. Last stop on the coast was Anglesea where I had a swim in the south sea before heading north to have dinner with some friends, Pete and Jenny.

Saw giraffes, elephants, zebras - very pretty - as well as all the famous but uglier animals: hippos, rhinos, buffalo etc etc. oh and pink flamingoes, they were the nicest. scenery was also very nice... did manage to take a few photos which i'll put up now, just for kicks. After safari got back to Arusha and had that guy that I may or may not have written ...

Gold fever

... record, in the last 7 days, it has rained the majority of times we've taken down or put up our tent!! We are getting expert at handling wet canvass. The countryside driving here is surprisingly English, ie green hills, meadows with cows, etc, it is only the fact that the green is not emerald but a dull colour that you remember we are actually in Australia not in Gloucestershire!

First up at five.

... maps have me really wondering if it is possible....it follows the great dividing range and was developed by horse riders. I will attempt to rack up a couple of kilometers on the bike today in training. I also have to buy a few more items i will need for camping. I will possibly need to consider upgrading my solar panels in order to be able to charge the quantity of batteries i will need. Well that is it for now, will post again in a few days to add progress.
