      Seeing Denali

We woke up this morning to no rain and pretty blue skies. We wanted to walk into Talkeetna but the host at our campsite recommended that we go look for Denali if we wanted a chance to see her. So we started driving up to the Talkeetna Lodge. On the way we pulled over at a lookout point and there she was! Seeing photos of her does not do her justice at all. It is a magnificent sight! People were pulling over like moths to a flame. We ...

Just before the town of Cantwell we get the quintessential Moose photograph. One moose in the bog and the other cow in the small pond. Well, at 4:00 AM I heard Ben putting away the electric cord and the water hose under the motor home. Any of you that know him well will not be surprised at this early departure time. We left and soon found very bumpy roads and gravel washboards again but not as many as we had experienced yesterday. ...

... us all about the sites along the way, a breakfast chef and a lady on the bar to serve warm and alcoholic beverages - hot chocolate it was for us. Poor George has only found good coffee in two places so far, Grouse Mountain Coffee Grind and from 1 particular barrister on the cruise, so he's switched to either tea or hot chocolate!

Our first stop on day one was at Talkeetna, a tiny town with a main street that takes 10 minutes to walk down - ...

North east Alasksa, Anchorage and glamping begins

... they were everywhere. The drive up the river valley was equally spectacular with the autumn colours and rugged snow topped ranges rising into the cloud. The shadows and light patches added to the incredible vistas. The lake itself was picture postcard stuff with small weekender like cabins and the rustic derelict shack adding to the scene. We left Nome that evening to fly back to Anchorage, tired but satisfied with our whirlwind trip to the north west of Alaska.
