... to cover the educations program we were instituting. Since a majority of the climbing accidents were foreigners we wrote a brochure and had it translated into 7 different languages. The mountain was averaging 27 major rescue and 6 deaths per year prior to this new regulations. After ten years the accidents averaged less that 10 and deaths were down to less that one per year. The program, although very controversial with the climbing public, was ...

We have been in Talkeetna today and are spending our second night here. We have had a very laid back day. The campground was full last night so we dry camped with electricity beside the office and moved this morning into a site with full hook-ups. We have become pretty adept at using the motor-home's systems without any hookups. We are washing linens and jeans today---I know it is ...

We had a relaxing day, doing some walking and sightseeing, sitting by the open fire drinking hot chocolate. Again I put our room number down for a call if the 'lights come out' tonight. The call came in at 12.30am but this time we had to get dressed in to our 4 layers of clothes, get shoes on and get outside to look for where the aurora ...

... I simply had to get a photo. Whilst there I checked the price of flights in case I was tempted to take one. A fabulous vista of Mt McKinley came into view 2 minutes up the road so I stopped again – compared to how I usually am (eg Opanake to New Plymouth took me 3 hrs in 2011 & it’s 60kms ) I hardly stopped at all.

Talkeetna is at the confluence of the Talkeetna, Susitna & Chulitna rivers & has a population of about 880. It was placed on the ...
