    First time going out alone, to Brussels. People are unexpectedly helpful, and luckily the few people whom I asked for direction, spoke English :)

    ... and signposted quiet lanes. Once we had left Ghent and moved along the Shelde we used quiet roads until the outskirts of Aalst, when traffic became bad ... A local cyclist, who assumed we were here for the Tour of Flanders suggested we go to Assen along a quieter road, marvellous ... Until traffic built up. This is where my sat nav came into its own and routed us through the outskirts to bustling Brussels to our hostel.
