    ... windpants and 2 pairs of socks. That wind.

    Anyhow, we fished with spinner bait and caught a ton of bass spawning up and down the river.

    The water getting there was rocky and shallow but crystal clear and amazing. Wish I had a paddle board, some sunshine and Texas heat.

    ... s Quarters bookends the old Fort Winnebago. Again a great history stop, highly recommended. The canal connecting the two drainages runs right along side it. It opened with such great hopes in 1876, but superseded by both the Illinois/Michigan canal and railroads it never reached its full potential. Today it lies closed and stagnant.

    This morning we walked in Toft Point Natural Area, through stands of old-growth white pines.     ... the late afternoon yesterday we stopped at Orchard State Beach and I got the full impact of Lake Michigan. I've got to say, I'm not sure I'm buying this 'lake' business. It's got waves, cliffs, beaches, storms, the works. I might be persuaded to call it an inland sea, but Lake? Nah. Way too impressive for a mere lake (see video if you need more evidence).
