No One Cares Who Your Daddy Is

I was absently-mindedly gassing up my old Ford 150 the other day when I looked up and froze. In front of me, I mean right there, was a drop dead stunning full-fall gorgeous mountain. Not off- in-the-distance Mt. Rainier, but right there. Green swarth rising to cirlets of golden poplar branches, ruddy blueberry bushes, smoky purple rock, topped by fresh white snow, and finally fresh blue sky.Sky and air so clear. A view from a Tesoro gas station.Only in Alaska. Anywhere else ...

The bears and volcanoes of Katmai (Alaska)

... has already begun in Alaska and the yellow leaves of the birch trees illuminate the countryside. The bus had to stop several times because a bear or a moose were crossing the road which ends at the refuge built on a knoll that overlooks the Valley. After a quick picnic, we walked down right into the Valley and soon reached impressive layers of pumice through which the Utak River carved its way. You then ...

Eskimo Potato

... Weight Control and be happy.

Unfortunately, Val was late in getting Eskimo Potato pictures this year, and the blossoms are past their prime. Nonetheless it is an interesting plant for this area, and she wanted to include it in an occasional plant life offering.

In my opinion veggies are ok, but how about some roasted ptarmigan or sautéed snowshoe hare?

settling in after a long haul

... I haven't even touched the photos yet. We have about 20-25 photo CDs with 200-400 photos each on them. Hopefully before the baby is born I will have gone through them to make a DVD of the best ones to show around. Thankfully, I kept up on the blog for the most part and will have the last of the photos posted by the end of this month. Then I will try to get the blog put into ...

... in the air we wouldn't be covered. So we then embarked on another trip to a hospital, via a medical centre where the first cabbie classed as a hospital and dropped us there. After a few hours wait we were given the all clear and much needed reassurance that I was ok. We were in bed pretty late, but it was still daylight. It didn't get "dark" until around midnight, and it got light around 2.30am. Needless to say we ...

Anchorage

I only been there once since we have flight that transit in ANC to/from Toronto. We had a crew change there and we managed to stay 24 hours. I was lucky it was around June, and the weather not that cold, around 10 degree. Weather was nice and the daytime is long. The sky was always bright until 3am, and it went dark for just about 1.5 hour and sunrise again at ...

... the
highlight of our trip, there many animals here to see in their natural
habitat (not like a zoo) and all the proceeds from the admission ticket
and gift shop purchases go to taking care of them. I even got to feed a
deer. My alaska trip was amazing and I look forward to the day that I
can revisit this beautiful state of wilderness.

Cruising in a camper through the Yukon

... to eat later. The view of Mount McKinley 'the big one' was truly awesome, it stands more than 20,000 feet high, it is unbelievable. Most visitors have a 20% chance of seeing Mount McKinley, so we felt really lucky. Last week we took a drive around the Kenai Peninsula, checking out Moose Pass, Seward, Homer and Hope. We splashed out on a nature cruise for 6 hours, travelling into the Kenai Fjords National Park, spotting otters, orcas, puffins ...

"This is a wildly hopping location most evenings, particularly in summer. A place known for its interesting clientele, many of these patrons seem to spend their every waking moment in this bar, and the result is a warning against alcohol consumption. Nevertheless, this is a fun bar with plenty of ...
