    ... pool near the ocean with a cave. We took a break here, but didn't get in the water. Then we began the next 2 mile portion of the hike to the falls.     We were so pumped for this hike because it's the infamous 8 mile mud swim hike! We started off struggling, because the terrain was very slippery and damp. We had to climb a lot of uphill and in some places we walked through incredibly muddy places. Luckily, a little while down the trail, there were boardwalks because the ground turned into marsh and was incredibly wet. ...

    ... were all alone near a large rock wall. The rock wall produced an echo off the crashing waves so it sounded like the ocean was behind us. It was pretty cool.

    The waters in Kauai are quite intense. We waded out a bit into the water and opted to just stand and get hit by the waves while trying to stay upright. Temperature wise, the water was perfect! But the waves are strong and the suction you feel when the waves are pulling back into the ocean is also quite strong. ...
