... two bedroom cabin had all the amenities, idyllic setting and not another soul to be seen or heard. It even had TWO hottubs! Saturday we had a lazy morning and took off to the villages nearby. A couple of little craft shops and a wander around a homecraft festival was interrupted by a 5 minute rain shower, and we took off to sample the local vineyards 'produce', which was lovely (and free!). lunch ...

Yet another instance of great friends starts my time at the lake. Upon hearing of my plans for this southern journey, Miss Heather Smith immediately rolled out that southern hospitality and invited me to stay at her family's lake house up at Lake Burton in Northeastern Georgia and enjoy some solitude. Thank you Heather! My few days here at Lake Burton, right up in the Chatahoochie National Forest, have been filled ...

... We all baked frozen pizzas, had amazing, glorious showers (even though the water pressure was terrible) and passed out. That was the longest day for me on the trail yet at 13 miles.

Today is our zero. Even though it hasn't rained as much as we thought it would, it's still been nice to rest and get some laundry done. I bought a new, larger tarp for my hammock and sent my old one home. Tomorrow we have an early morning shuttle lined up to the same gap and plan on ...

... it our base camp for a few days. Forest Hills Resort, 13 miles out of town is a large farm with individual log cabins that can be rented. Ours featured a hot tub, fire place, wrap-around porch and beautiful views of mountain forest. Horse riding, wagon trails and a intimate chapel are all perks of Forest Hills but we opted for the hiking trials instead. Breakfast is included but dinners can be reserved. Well worth saving ...
