... going to go forward even with the hubs locked … the Shorty came through with the goods, foot down and get the Mickey Thompsons digging until flat firm ground was found. How they tow boats down here I will never know.
The biggest surprise was to find a caravan park down the end, however I don’t think a caravan has ever been down there. The very nice the park guard let us through the gate and told us ...
... bear in mind I'm no expert here - just the way it made me feel seeing white stones piled into cairns where soldiers died and remain, strewn across empty fields).
The day came to a rather unfortunate close with us discovering a 4inch roofing nail embedded in
our back tyre. We limped 19km(!) to our hostel in Dundee and the following morning, with the assistance of a very kind ...
... over the course of the morning, I even ended up enjoying the experience. Although I have to admit I have been walking a bit strangely since! I am writing this from St Lucia which is a marine reserve up near the border with Mozambique. We got here yesterday and today has been fantastic. We went hippo and crocodile watching this morning from a boat, we saw both which was really exciting. Then we went for a drive down the coast where you drive through a game reserve which ...
St. Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa littlemisbakpakHappy Halloween! Instead of celebrating Halloween Nikki and I were the special guests in her mom's 3rd grade classroom. The students are currently studying Native Americans, therefore it was exciting to have an American guest. We came in for the art lesson and had the students make Tipi's, totem poll drawings, and feather hand-bands that displayed the Native ...
Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa whitneyhl... who whipped out a big loaf of bread, a knife and a bread board - talk about prepared! After the waterfall we started our decent down the mountain, which involved climbing down two sets of chain ladders. We were given no ropes, no safety equipment at all and it was quite windy that day. Very dangerous - but thrilling too if you're like me! We found out after the hike that a young guy of 19 had died on the mountain a few days ...
Northern Drakensberg, South Africa francescahunt... and the San Bushman rock art site. Plenty more wildlife was to be seen, loads of photo opportunities, more Castle and wine drinking and the chance to soak up the mountain air and relax before the long trip back to Jo-burg and home.. a perfect end to a perfect holiday
Drakensberg Mountains, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa clarefun22My Safara was absolutely amazing. We saw 4 of the Big 5, minus the leopard which I could care less about. I saw the elephants and so my life is complete. We have a photo of 3 of the 5 together by one brook. Our guide asked us to send it to him because that's never happend. It was an Elephant bull, 2 white Rhinos and a lioness. Amazing. I'm glad I didn't get malaria or sunburn so I'd say my trip was an absolute success!
Kwazulu- Natal, South Africa cudiebug23... cola adverts slogan - BBRRRRR... after laughing continously for a few hours it was obvious that grass is for walking, not for smoking as many will disagree.. but screw ém I say! Kirsten was still high in the later hours of this morning, when we, like idiots, decided to do grocery shopping this morning for all 6 of us! So driving home in a zombie state was mellowed out but the ...

Durban, South Africa whereslisa... sea-food, listened to some jazz and had a quick dip in the tropical ocean. Even at 8pm it was beautifully warm in the middle of winter. And then I remembered where I was. Street kids were parading the seafront, beggars were mixing the crowd and the unmistakable feeling of vulnerability swept over me. Where there is money, there is deprivation, if you choose to notice. How to fit into such a complex world will take some head space over the coming months.
