Nachitoches weather

We were awakened by a extremely loud air raid siren this morning. The City of Nachitoches (nak-a-tish) has a very loud siren system with recorded announcements throughout the downtown area. Thoughts of impending London air raids, armageddon or tornados went through our heads until we heard the loudspeakers throughout town, warning of lighting strikes from the incoming thunder storms. That was a whole lot of excitement within the B&B for just another thunder storm. Breakfast ...

We enjoyed another delicious breakfast with Jeanette, our host at the B&B. Jeanette is a fascinating Ol' Southern Belle who enjoys her drinking - her afternoon wine she calls her "Toddy for the body". She invited her B&B guests to share her morning "libation". There was a free tour of the main house and self-guided tour of the balance of the property. Next stop was the Melrose Plantation. Only a few ...

It was founded in 1714 as a French outpost on the Red River to facilitate trade with the Spanish in Mexico. The town is named after the local Native American tribe. There was a log jam during the 1830's and the Red River ...

... Desert Museum. We visited Tombstone, we camped in Las Cruces and we spent the night in a horrible hotel because we got a bit late (30 dollars a night per room - that says it all).

And now we are in Louisiana enjoying the local accent and colors! Tomorrow we'll head to Natchez and then up to Vicksburg where we'll stay for a few days. So more later....
