... next stop after the hiking trail was to a place less than 10km from Killarney, called Kennedy Pet Farm. It was cuteness unlimited. I had my doubts going into this, but it is well run, well supervised, and hell, it's vacation so I'm going to let my animal welfare worries have a longer leash than usual (pun intended.) OMG. We stopped at one of many peat bogs for a closer look--very interesting landscape. A lunch stop at a popular remote seaside restaurant offered not only a great meal but exraordinary views of the coastline....and up-close photo ops of the sheep.

... It lead us down a paved road, then a dirt road past some houses and finally into a field. We had to climb over the farmers fence (a ladder was provided) and a sign warned us to mind the cattle-leave only but footprints. It was the most random path but we enjoyed walking through the fields that had the ocean to our left and mountains to our right. We finally came out to the main road that would take us back to town, but we weren't ready so we headed back the way ...
And the Winner Is
... breeds one native to Ireland - the red deer which have been there since the end of the last Ice Age and Japanese deer. The later obviously not native to Ireland. The deer are so numerous now that they are becoming pests to farmers and a danger on the roads. We were lucky enough to see a young deer along the way. Further on around the lake which turns out to be a massive wind tunnel and freezing. The boats would definitely not be running ...
