    After 191 days, 36 states, and over 7,300 miles, it's time. That's right. It pains me very much to do this, but 6 months on the road has taken a very heavy toll.

    So, I must now officially announce that my 27 1/4" Continental Gatorskin front tire and my 20 year old, size 9 Shimano biking shoes have finally seen their final miles. The trusty tire was one especially made for touring with super tough Kevlar ...

    Jeff had organised a pontoon boat for the day so we picked it up around 9:30 and motored to the bait shop, the Kangaroo .. lol. We picked up a bucket of minnows and then went to one of his favourites spots on the lake to try for some crappies and some catfish.

    Durham has had a month of crazy weather, and it isn't changing. I was there for two 20 degree days of delicious sunshine, perfect and unexpected after the heat of Phoenix, when I thought I'd be heading to British conditions. But it's due to plunge to near freezing by tuesday. Tom at parkrun said they'd had 15 degree shifts within a day, which reminded me of Perth, though admittedly the temperature plunge there just took it from unbelievably hot ...

    ... br> We met his chickens, his dogs, his lovely extended family and his dear friend Jonathan, a 7 year old boy with cerebral palsy that he cares for as both an avocation and labor of love. They make each other very happy. The yard was a whimsical delight with vegetable gardens, an inviting hammock and children's play set turned chicken coop. His home was warm and inviting and filled with friends.
