... We passed Houston, where we encountered four separate bumper-bashings that caused tailbacks down the freeway. The first and most severe we managed to avoid by taking a parallel road, and fortunately the others were clearing by the time we reached them.

We reached Columbus, Texas rather later than we had hoped. Our hotel was opposite Sally's Steakhouse, so we retired thereto for a well-earned meal and a beer or two.

... bike gives up soon after. A two hour wait and we load the bike again onto the back of the support vehicle.

We continue on our bikes for the 200 miles still to do and get to our hotel at columbus at about 730. Interesting doing battle on the maze of roads around Houston, but we get through, despite the heavy traffic.

A quick shower and a nice steak at a nearby restaurant. A tiring long day - sleep beckons.

... croaking along the way and birds of many varieties flew here and there.

We soon passed a park ranger and we stopped and talked for a few moments. I told him we were visiting from California and said we were hoping to see some alligators and asked if he knew where any were. He walked us about 100 feet further and pointed to one who was in the water, nearly completely covered in green matter and very much camouflaged. He said that he ...

It was a Ferry nice Day

    5400 miles so far.

Reluctantly packed up and left Port Aransas. It was the kind of laid-back, not too commercialized place that we have always liked. Would definitely return, but it is a LONG way from Michigan or North Carolina. Lot of people from Minnesota, Dakotas, Midwest vacationing here. RV heaven - you can park your RV right down by the beach - have to get a Parking Permit, but still pretty cool. Took the ferry across ...
