Historical Traveler Reviews Sobe You Tropical Bed & Breakfast Inn Miami Beach
Best Kept Secret in South Beach
SoBe You is the perfect B & B. Tropical setting on a quiet residential street. Sparkling clean and comfortable rooms. Sumptuous beds with wonderfully fresh-smelling bed linens and towels. Exquisite breakfasts -many organic ingredients - served from 9 to 10:30 - with hot, fresh, aromatic coffee and numerous teas also available earlier. Best of all the owners are exceptionally accommodating and friendly and are knowledgeable on a vast array of subjects as well as the local happenings. A pleasing variety of music accompanies the meal and may be enjoyed later while taking a dip in the pool or relaxing in the poolside tropical setting. There are beautifully furnished rooms available in the house or across the pool in one of the separate units. I love the nearby park - one block away. It has well kept pools including a lap pool and children's pool, gated playground, tennis and basketball courts, plenty of benches and a great walking corridor to multiple destinations. The B & B was refurbished and re-opened by the new current owners in late 2005. I visited in February for a week and returned there three more times this year, 2006.
Sobe You was A+
I just wanted to provide a "review" of this bed and breakfast. It was great. The two woman that own it were so nice. They were very warm and very accomodating. The room was wonderful, well decorated and clean. They had a 1 bedroom suite available unexpectedly and they asked my parter and I if we would like an upgrade. The suite was even better. The pool is great with wonderful vegetation. The pool area is "fenced" in by the two buildings which is perfect if you want to get away from the South Beach Scene. Everyting is in walking distance. The neighborhood appeared to be safe. We were able to park the car in front of the building and they gave us a parking pass to stay there. Breakfast was great. We had a spinach and egg casserole which was a step above the usual continental breakfast. Because it is a gay owners were able to direct us to any gay freindly events, clubs and beaches. All in all I would rate it an A+
Great stay in South Beach
SoBeYou was the perfect place to relax and unwind at the end of a week long business trip.
First was the location. It is in a very quiet residential zone, but within easy walking distance of shopping, entertainment, and the beach. Next were the hostesses, Susan and Julie. I felt at home as soon as I walked through the gate, when they greeted me in such a warm fashion. They quickly got me settled into my room, gave me a map of the area, and gave some suggestions for dining, shopping, and nightlife.
My room was extremely comfortable, well furnished and wonderful linens. A nice touch was a small fridge which allowed me to keep a supply of water, food and drinks chilled (purchased from the organic grocery store they had recommended).
The breakfasts were tasty and varied, and served in such a warm and relaxed setting.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and would stay there again in a heartbeat.
What can I say - Fantastic!
We have just returned from a weekend at SoBeYou.
Suzan and Julie are fantastic hosts and we felt at thome from the moment we walked through the front gate.
We booked into a 1 bedroom suit and we could have asked for none better. It was very comfortable, very clean and very well appointed -much more than I expected.
I just loved the breakfast! Too often in B&Bs breakfast is, at best, functional. But at SoBeYou the breakfast, taken by the pool and prepared by Suzan, was one of the day's highlights.
Being our first time in South Beach, and wanting to experiene as much as possible during our short stay, we consulted our hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and suggestions as to what to do came thick and fast, making our stay all that more enjoyable.
Overall, SoBeYou was one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed at, our main regret was that we only had 2 days to enjoy their hospitality. Will we be returning? A definate YES and we will be recommending SoBeYou to all our friends travelling to Miami.
Our hosts, Suzan and Julie are to be congratulated. They made us feel like we were staying with friends.
Sobeyou was great!
Sobeyou was a great experience. A quiet layed back affordable b&b.
We walked the easy 5-6 blocks to the beach. On street parking was easy with passes given to guests. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable and luxurious. Breakfasts were creative and tasty. 9 AM coffee could have been earlier but Starbucks is nearby. The pool/spa is really not swimeable but is pleasant to cool off in and sit around. The hostesses are friendly and aim to please. A hidden away oasis. We would return in a minute!
A very pleasant stay
Early November we stayed at the SoBeYou B&B for 6 nights and had a wonderful stay. We were looking for a small hotel "close to everything and away from it all" and this is exactly what SoBeYou B&B represents.
We were welcomed by Susan, Joolz and Peanut the dog and they immediately made us feel at home. They showed us our room which was the cleanest one we have ever seen. Everything in the room is, as displayed on the website, spotlessly white. The bathroom is small but again spotless, a shelf beneath the mirror would come in handy though. The swimming pool is tiny but ever so lovely and you receive clean towels that smell great. Since there are only 10 rooms, you'll have the pool most of the time to yourself. Every morning they serve a delicious and healthy breakfast at the patio.
We received a parking permit for the residential area of the B&B (free of charge). This is good value as parking in South Beach is a nightmare and expensive (USD 20 per day). All the action can be found within a 10 minutes walk so that allowed us to leave the car at the B&B. You should consider this when staying at the noisy hotels at Collins Avenue or Ocean Drive. We also received a free entrance pass to Nikki Beach. We used it and found out that visitors without such a pass pay USD 25 each for a beach chair and towel.
The staff has done their utmost to accommodate our stay in South Beach in recommending some very good restaurants, taking care of the reservations, looking things up on the map and making telephone calls on our behalf. All in all this place is a true gem so we highly recommend SoBeYou and we will definitely stay there again.

Unfair business practices
I followed the link [--] website and requested my reservation dates and room type in Aug. 2006. I received a prompt email reply from an employee of So Be You Bed & Breakfast Inn, South Beach, FL. with a request to contact her by phone to discuss my room options. She was very helpful and friendly and recommended a room with a higher price than I had originally requested, but after talking with her I agreed that it would better suit my needs. She informed me that the price is normally $225 per night but, since she recommended the upgrade and since our stay was so many months away, (Feb 16-20, 2007), that she wanted to extend a rate of $190 per night. I agreed and she emailed me a confirmation. I recently received a less than pleasant voicemail on Nov. 14 from So Be You, informing me that the rate is $225 a night for the room I booked, that the rate I was given was a mistake and that I could basically take it or leave it. I returned the voicemail and followed with quite a few emails pleading my case of the written and verbal confirmations that I had received from her staff. Long story short, she was rude, unapologetic and unbending on the price.(we are only talking $140 total difference in price for the entire stay). One price was offered directly from the B & B reservations staff and now So Be You Bed & Breakfast is refusing to honor the given rate of $190 per night even though I have the printed emailed confirmation on an official So Be You Bed & Breakfast confirmation form. I would not recommend this B & B to anyone. I suggest staying at Indian Creek Hotel instead. Great service and a quiet location. Even if you do not stay at Indian Creek the restaurant is well worth the visit.
Refused to honor Confirmed Reservation for FEB 2007
Sobeyou's management called us after we had booked several months ago and claimed that the rate that they had offered to us AND sent written confirmation for was incorrect and therefore, we could take the room at their published internet rate, or, basically, too bad....Their customer service was atrocious in this instance--THEY offfered a subtle discount when we phoned to reserve--we didn't ask for it. In fact, we had asked for more basic accommodation, but the Reservations agent suggested we take the upgrade, which she would be happy to offer at a slight discount.
Their miscommunication within their establishment has become our problem. We have already purchased plane tickets and now have been left with nothing in return. Even after we wrote a very firm, but polite response as to the need for them to soak up the total of roughly $100 in loss IN TOTAL for their mistake as the correct action, their only reply was to reiterate that the rate was the rate, but that she would be glad to "assist us in finding another location". No apologies, no compromises, no admission that this was THEIR fault! We will not be going there and we recommend others voting with their feet and taking their business elsewhere.
The Sobeyou is a beautiful guesthouse in a superb central location on Jefferson Ave. The rooms are clean, bright and airy and face a lovely pool/deck area. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming and really took the time to make me feel at home - Peanut the dog is great too! This guesthouse is a welcome change from faceless chain hotels and I highly recommend it. I'll certainly stay there on my next trip to Miami, and the rates are very reasonable too.
Exellent place to stay!
My husband and I recently stayed at SoBe You Bed and Breakfast. This was our first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast and it certainly didn't disappoint us!! The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are spotless. This was one time where the website was not an exaggeration. The owner is very welcoming. The breakfasts are very gourmet, healthy and perfectly served. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet. We were never disturbed by surrounding guests. The pool/jacuzzi was very inviting. I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the South Beach area. You won't be disappointed.

... I was very sad to leave such a chilled place with a very relaxed pace of life. We could all do with a little bit of Caribbean thinking in our lives.
Time to head to the airport and go back stateside. The taxi driver was very adamant that I take his number and give him a call if I ever returned to Barbados. And then at the airport my flight number was changed once and the departure gate was changed five times. Relaxed. Certainly. Organised......? Haha

After one last key lime ice-cream we had to say goodbye to the island and went back to the South Beach hostel in Miami.

It’s literally been two weeks since I got back. I’ve never travelled that close together before and it felt really weird. And it made me really hate the flying part. I just wanted it to be over.
