... about GWC and there was a short, but nice, trail. While we mostly visited this site just to check it off the list, it was fairly interesting and definitely educational! After that we headed for Miami, OK (pronounced "Miama") to a Category 2 Hampton Inn...we love redeeming a small number of points for a good night's sleep, and clean bathroom, and a decent breakfast! It's 5:36pm as I begin to write this post and already so much has happened. That tends to be the case for us on this trip, but today was a particularly strange day. ... After some self reflection time, I took a long lunch and headed in with the group to cross not one, but TWO state lines! We were in Missouri for a stretch of about 12 miles, and then headed into Oklahoma soon after. We stopped and petted some adorable Australian Shepard pups, bought fresh tomatoes , and cruised into Grove with a fresh mind and excitement for the rest of the trip to ...

Route 66 from Strafford, MO to Afton, OK

Started the day is Strafford with heavy rain and decided to postpone leaving until it eased. Once on the road I travelled through Springfield on my way to Wilson's Creek Battlefield. This was the site of the second battle of the American Civil War west of the Mississippi and the first battle in which a Union General was killed. To look at the site now you would never believe a battle had been fought there and there is very little evidence visible that there was once a mill on the site. I ...
