... famous Muscle Beach (no muscle men in action, must have been too cold) and spent an hour on the beach building sandcastles. We had parked our car on Abbot Kinney Boulevard just a short walk from the beach - it's the super cool street in Venice Beach (independent shops, restaurants, bars - not a chain in sight) although its street cred went down a few notches in my estimation when we spotted Piers Morgan. We headed back to the hotel pool in the afternoon followed ...

... The drive took us to Happy Isles were we started our first hike. A 3+ mile round trip with a 1,000 foot climb including over 600 granite steps to the top of Vernal Fall. At the top, we took in the views and were happy knowing that we could climb on something on El Cap on this trip (even if it's just a toe). Ben's definitely a better climber than me and there are longer, more difficult routes he can do, however he would need a partner who climbs more at his level. Perhaps he will come back for more of El Cap, as I know this would be something he'd love to be able to do.

Finding Balance in Yosemite Valley

... for multiple months on end sustainable.

During the nearly three weeks we had in the “Valley” the weather was unbeatable. Especially for May. Sure, there were a few rainy days, and a few windy days, but all in, nothing that stopped us from chipping away at our tick-list of climbs.

Moratorium (3 pitches, 5.11b) one day and Braille Book (6 pitches, 5.8) ...
