... a Yosemite hotspot, and with it being Sunday, we had lots of weekenders from San Francisco to contend with. After much deliberation, we settled on a spot close to the Mariposa Grove shuttle bus, but before making our way to see the trees, we had a lovely picnic lunch to devour. Scrummy cheese bagels, tomatoes, cherries, grapes and tasty cinnamon cakes... Yum. We ate on a picnic bench amongst a fascinating collection of historic Yosemite buildings.

... fires recently and the main highway in was shut. We picked up a suggested itinerary from reception, which covered the main hikes and viewpoints in the park so that seemed like the most sensible place to start. When we reached the park we had to pay a $20 entrance fee then we carried on the 30 mile drive to Taft Point and Sentinel Dome, which were the first two hikes on our list.

The car park was absolutely packed and people were parking up the roads ...

... might have guessed, apart from the hotel there is not much else around. The local grocery shop is 7 miles away and Yosemite entry another 3 mile from there. The pool worked perfectly well and the girls had a lot of fun jumping in and out.

They do have barbecues which is a good thing. It would appear that none of the staff have used one. It was suggested that a good cooking implement might be a ...

The drive to Glacier Point, over 7000ft above sea level took us via the Ahwanhee hotel. Established in the 1920's, the hotel was the first luxury hotel to be built in the area, when the owners decided that upper class visitors needed somewhere to stay in order to enjoy the park.
