... windy narrow 2 way road with black ice Andrew genuinely flinched a few times as it was difficult to gauge optimal position in the lane with oncoming traffic so close. Something about rocky barriers and drifting cars (not mine most the time) gave Andrew sweaty palms. ... It was a hike in itself just to get to the starting point! We chose to start with Taft Point, a 2.2 mile round trip, which was relatively easy on the way there. ... Creek Campground. There are size restrictions at most of the camps and you have to have reservations for them. It took us almost two hours to get to the campsite because we had to cross over another mountain and climb, climb, climb. We are at about 6800 feet above sea level.

We have never “dry camped” before so this is a new experience for us. First of all, we didn’t realize that the campground was so ...

Day Twenty-Four: Trekking

My day today started early and alone. I said farewell to a sleepy Seb and checked out of the hostel just after 6am, taxied to the Amtrak station and ate a banana for breakfast while I waited for the bus. It was pretty neat watching the city wake up around me, particularly down near the water where the Amtrak stop is. Just after 7 my bus arrived, and before I could even wake up properly I was leaving San Francisco and headed for my train ...
