This morning we packed up and left the "Bates Hotel" for bigger and better things. Our check out time was for 10:00 and we were out of there just before then. I asked to speak to the manager as he has been among the missing since our conversation two days ago when we promised a refund of two nights lodging costs, which as of this morning hadn't been credited to my Visa. Fortunately, he was actually at work this morning and I was able to confirm that my refund had been ...
... tired. We had hoped to go into Westminster Abbey but it was closed by the time we got there so we went to the Horse Guards Museum which was very interesting - fantastic uniforms but also learning that the Guards are still on active duty including in places like Afghanistan just without the horses!
A trip home standing on the packed train finished of the feet entirely so it will be another early night to rest up for ...
... etc. The trains coming and going looked like a toy train set. And what an amazing meal. Expensive, but absolutely fabulous, and a great way to celebrate.
We also saw: Southwark Cathedral, the Borough Markets, the Golden Hinde (Sir Francis Drake's ship), and the remains of the rose window of the ancient Bishops Palace of Westminster.
... a trip to the Alps was not on the cards, which was very disappointing….although we did get to see some of the Swiss Alps from 15,000 feet on our plane ride to London…which is where this blog entry is being written.
Our time on the European mainland is over and we’ve seen some great things…old ruins, famous land marks and spectacularly beautiful scenery. I’m sure these next two weeks in the UK will bring more of the ...
FYI, Kings Cross St Pancras station in London is the home of Platform 9 3/4. So...Hogwarts or Heathrow??
back in the wonderful world of free wifi at heathrow. Having a fabulous Pret salad. Not sure if my body's happy or thinking wtf after the lands of meat and potatoes. Have a bit of duty free perusal ahead of me then off to Iceland!
