Rainy days in Durban

... in Durban is limited. Despite almost constant rain, I've enjoyed walking around the city a bit and visiting several small museums.

Tomorrow I'm heading up into the northern Drakensberg mountains, where I hope the weather will be good enough to hike and ride horseback over the next couple of days.

Here I am again..

Well here I am again in Hillcrest. Spent the week, sorting through clothes to take down in to the valley to distribute amongst the orphans. They were distributed on Wednesday, it has been a variety of weather as well...really hot to quite cold......not sure why I am here early, but I learning to take each day as it comes...

Durban Day

... think we are nuts but we put it on bananas, apples, bread, ice cream, everything practically. So we all know we have been eating a lot but tonight was a true measure because we had a brand new jar at our table after dinner there was barely any left in the jar! I think that everyone had an apple and peanut butter and almost everyone had one or two pb&j's . It is just ridiculous. Tomorrow is church and this time we will be going to the real City Harvest so I am excited.

... for me! You can watch a Bollywood movie in town and I did see a lot of Indian people and talked to a few ladies. The Good Food and Wine festival was a good change from doing the typical tourist thing! I didn't have any wine, but tried a lot of food and had several coffees. The food was mainly samples from small companies who were advertising their products. I had lots of pesto and other dip and sauce, French crepes, fudge ...

... prostitutes being pimped, slum, and garbage. Oh yeah...and my driving didn't help out matters either. Having an American drive a stick on the left hand side of the road in the passenger seat is simply crazy. First off, I think South Africans are dyslexic because who does that. They really need to notify the rest of South Africa whenever an American drives in the country like an emergency sig alert. After stalling multiple ...

Never have I been so excited by a grocery store

South Africa is really... white. Durban is dangerous at night and there
is a huge mall. They have blackouts every day for two hours at two in
the afternoon, and even the malls shut down.

... church to see U2 in 3-D one Fri. evening as she needed an even number of males and females. I've never seen U2 in concert, but the movie, made of footage from several concerts in South America, was spectacular. I completely offended them after the movie though when I mentioned that I have a bumper sticker with the same "COEXIST" (with the symbols of Islam forming the C, Judaism the X, and Christianity the T) motto that ...

... s the bus or another mini bus taxi from there to Durban. By a stroke of luck I was chatting to a couple of girls over dinner last night who'd hired a car and were driving back to Durban in the afternoon and offered me a lift - hoorah!! They also offered to drop Roxanne to the hospice in Pinetown where she was starting her month long volunteer work with AIDs patients. Pinetown looks pretty rough ...

My dismal failure and heartache

... catch anything. Morning of the 14 We wake up and everything is perfect. I am excited, ive got the bad day behind me and know what to expect and am ready to get fishing. We get to the beach even earlier this time and everything is absolutely perfect, the surf is down, the water is blue and the air is still. But right as we were getting ready to lauch a stiff wind from the southwest came out of no where, a southwest wind is impossible to paddle against and ...
