... couple of road signs that said 'Thickly Settled', which I was mystified by (are they talking about my waistline?) It turns out that it means densely populated and you must not drive more than 30 mph. Who knew?
The end of the day brought us to Mystic, CT. We walked around a bit as the sun was going down, catching some beautiful light and chatting with a road-tripping couple from Seattle. They have a motorhome and are spending a year on the road. I'm envious.
Lovely sail in to Newport this am. This is a city I really want to come back to and stay for a few days. So much to see and do! We went for a walk along the famous "Cliff Walk" a public pathway right along the ocean that is open to all and goes right in front of all the famous mansions. We ended our walk with a tour of the Vanderbilt's home, the Breakers. Great audio tour so you could go at your own pace. Reminded me of Downton ...
We left off last week at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York. The library is repository for all documents accrued during FDR's 12-year presidency (1933-45). Jens has been working for a number of years on a book about the Danish physicist and Nobel-laureate Niels Bohr. He had been looking forward to spending time during research at the library. ... by Quakers and Baptists and has a very New England feel to it. Most of the houses are wooden framed clapperboard and shingle houses although there are some spectacular mansions along the cliffs bordering Easton Bay which came into view as we walked the impressive coastal path. The centre of the town is quite attractive especially the port area with many quaint shops along the old wharves. There is also a lovely church in the centre called Trinity Church ...

They had not even set off from Plymouth to start with but because of all the false starts had got dwindled down to one ship and eventually had made their way to Plymouth and with extra passengers set off from Plymouth. They had intended to head to the Hudson river but because of weather couldn't make it and also were more than a month late had to camp ...
