A week before ... the usual trepidation

... and "consume" in the western world ... but it perhaps more importantly it left me with a sense of hope that humanity can find a way for itself that will work ... the people I met last time seemed so much happier without all the trappings of consumer societies in the West ... but at the same time they deserve better than we give them ... my big fear is we turn them into more of us consumers, parasitic creatures with no respect ...

Cross-Country Road Trip #1

... br>We then drove to Doolin, a tiny town on the west coast of Ireland (south of Galway). We had more beautiful scenery on the drive, but it got dark before we reached Doolin. The roads were very narrow and curvy, and some were pretty poorly paved. They are not lit, either, since they are just country roads on the way to Doolin. When we arrived in Doolin, we had a little bit of trouble finding the Bed & ...

Beautiful Connemara

... larger tour group came in behind us. Crowded and consumed with camera flashes, the abbey was suddenly not as peaceful as I had hoped it would be. I decided to make my own way to find some peace and explore. I started following the trail that lead to the gothic chapel on site. It was much more quiet out by the chapel, and I realized that the trail kept going , but no one was following it once they past the chapel. Score. I followed the little path covered in leafs lined with ...

Omey Island and Kylemore Abbey

... shore, a still existing ancient church and many artifacts buried within the "Midens" walls. The island served as a burial ground from the land across the way since its ground was sandy and easier for digging as compared to the rocky, dry area across the other side. It was so strange to be walking across the area where the water usually resides. Even neater was the ability to view a few cars pass over! After several hours, and before the tides ...

Ben's Birthday weekend :)

Hello everyone :) It's been a little while since my last entry but really there isn't too much different with us. We are really busy with projects for classes and I think we'll both be glad when they're all finished. Friday morning, Ben and I are flying to Dublin, Ireland. That was my birthday present to him because I knew he had always wanted to go there. We are both really excited to go there and get away for a couple days. We'll be flying back on ...

... at the Aillwee Caves where we had a choice - go in for an extra €7 or have something to eat in the cafe. We didn't have time for both. Since our 'lunch' stop wouldn't be until 3pm I decided to skip the caves (seen others anyway) and had scones with jam and cream (very English... even though I was in Ireland). All throughout this tour we were driving in 'the Burren' an area made of multiple levels of limestone rocks. Very little topsoil but full of minerals so what land ...

My Future

In the morning I had the skills test at I.C.E. (the temp agency), and aced it. There was a typing test (74 wpm, thank you very much, a Word test (95% of questions right) and an Excel test (75% right even though I don't know the program at all and it was more a test of my deductive reasoning). Annette, the person who's in charge of the office temps, was very impressed...she said she hadn't seen that typing speed in a long time. Finally, some external validation ...
