Getting a taste of Doolin

Today was a very long and exciting day! I can't believe all we have seen and it's only our first day! We drove around the area and got a feel for what things are like and what we want to see more of. The Cliffs of Moher are amazing! Hopefully we can take a boat tour of them and get up close. We also drove along the Burren for several miles. It is like something from another planet. Everywhere you go there is stone fence. There are enough miles of stone fence to circle the globe about 20 times...

Golf and The Burren

This morning we got up and had a delicious "Full Irish Breakfast" that traditionally includes a fried egg, toast, bacon (more like Canadian Bacon), light/white pudding (what we would call sausage links) served with assorted home-baked breads including the famous brown bread which is very hearty and full-grain. Wonderful! Next we drove to "Doolin Pitch and Put" where Pat got to golf. It had amazing views of the Atlantic and Cliffs of Moher in the backgroud. A pitch and put is a links style cou...

Bunratty Castle and Cliffs of Moher

Today there was a threat of rain so we decided to visit Bunratty Castle and Folk Park thinking it would be all inside. Turns out that the Folk Park is like an Irish version of New Salem (for those of you who know what that is) so we were outside a lot. Our Irish luck held out and it barely rained at all. The Castle is a renovated 1425 castle with furnishings. Pretty amazing! The floor is all original. The castle was in really bad shape and they restored it in 1960. Now they have medieval banq...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Sea View House Doolin

Very rude and unfriendly.

from Gypsygirl.NZ
I had read great reviews on this B & B. Could not make a booking but turned up early evening in the middle of Oct.2005 and rang the bell as we had done many times on our trip around Ireland.

All the lights were on, cars in the drive. No answer.

Tried several times, could see someone sitting in the front room through a slit in the curtains. Went around the side to another door and another bell, rang again. Still no answer,By this time the curtains had been pulled closer so I could not see in the room.I knocked on the door loudly.

A woman came to the door, said, YES! in a rude voice. I asked if there were any vacancies as there was no sign up at the gate. She very rudely said No and closed the door in my face.

Now I wonder if this was my fault, where did I go wrong.

I must have caught her on a bad day. Happily we found a delightful room further up the same road.

This was the only place on our whole trip of three weeks that we had such a bad experience and it left a sour taste in my mouth.

Wonderful Stay!

from WIBadgergirl
We popped in at the last minute without a reservation and Darra had just had a cancellation for the evening. Were we ever lucky. Very helpful and friendly. Great breakfast and wonderful room with a great view! We loved Doolin and would stay again at the Sea View in a minute!

Great Welcome, Great views!

We have just returned from a weeks stay & feel very relaxed! Seaview House is a beautiful place with stunning views. Our host Darra made us so comfortable & welcome. Great breakfasts, spotless rooms, we'll definately be returning to Doolin soon!

Great B&B

from KCBDENVER
We rentend two rooms at the Sea View House the latter part of May 2005. We could not have been more pleased with everything associated with the B&B. The home was lovely, the food was teriffic and Darra, the owner, is a gem! She helped with suggestions for activities, directions, and was all around fun to visit with. It doesn't hurt that this B&B sits right above Gus O'Connor's Pub. If you're going to Doolin, stay here!

Great Beginning to a Great Trip

from irelands_own
All our expectations were exceeded. This B & B was the only one we had booked in advance for our two week travels along the West Coast of Ireland. The house and the hostess (Darra) were more than charming. We chose a twin room for our two nights stay in Doolin. It was quite large, with a skylight which provided bright sunshine and a view of the hillside behind the house. The furnishings were lovely, creating a warm, comfortable setting. The house sits high upon the hillside, right off the main roadway into town. The common area of the living room had a wonderful view of the quaint town of Doolin as well as a not too distant view of the Atlantic. Darra herself was the perfect hostess, ever so friendly and helpful in providing suggestions and making contacts for possible future accommodations. Be sure to take advantage of the views/ruins accessible from the lane immediately in front of the house, which travels up the hill intersecting the main thoroughfare. Great location for touring the Cliffs, the Burren, etc. We would go out of our way to stay in this B&B again.

Worth a visit

from A TripAdvisor Member
We enjoyed our stay at the Sea View House. The breakfast was excellent and the hostess, Darra, was plesant and helpful. The driveway was a little dangerous since we weren't used to the rental car. The location is perfect to see lots of things in the area, such as the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. Additionally, the sea can be reached by a short walk down the road. We would recommend the Sea View House.

The best B&B in Doolin By Far

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is without the best B&B in Doolin.

The location is ideal, close to O'Connors pub with a wonderfull river and sea view.

Darra our host is a wonderfull cook and entertained us with her advise and local knowledge.

The rooms are spacious with plenty of room and large shower rooms, cable tv and comfy beds.

I cannot wait to return.

Loved it

Sea View House in Doolin - I've stayed there twice now and loved every minute of it. Your hostess, Darra, is simply fantastic. She's warm and personable and very eager toshare her knowledge of the area and to help steer everyone to enjoy their stay in Ireland. The breakfasts are great and she makes her own brown bread and a great tastingporriage, too.

This B&B is only 100 yards from Gus O'Connor's Pub which offers not only some great food, but wonderful music. The only problem is the uphill walk backafter a fun evening of a "few" pints and music...! Its also about the same distance to the bus stop, so if you'd rather let someone else drive some place for a daytrip you couldleave your vehicle in the carpark and enjoy the day.

Excelent bed and breakfast in Doolin

Stayed at this wonderfull bed and breakfast this fall. The best things going for this place is its location. Wonderfull views on land and sea and only a short stroll to O'connors pub.Rooms are comfey, clean and bright with bathrooms, televisions, hairdryers and radios.Gourmet breakfast served in a wonderfull antique style dining romm. Our hostess Darra was most helpfull and helped us plan our day with advice on places to see and eat.
