... at the top. Had dinner in Newport, home of the largest commercial fishing fleet on the west coast. Dungeness crab is king here, sampled some crab chowder and it was delicious. At $38 per pound for lump crab meat I'll try not to get too addicted though. Spent the night in Yachats my favorite coastal town so far. Had a footpath by the ocean that reminded us of the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, fell asleep to the pounding ...

... aprons. They're sentient and sniff you as you walk by. * People wear their politics on their sleeves. Most cars have political bumper stickers and many houses advertise their affiliations and points of view too. * Americans are extremely polite. ... very clear on the differences between them. Finally I laid them all out on the table and found we had picked some real chanterelles AND some fake chanterelles, and once you had them side by side it was quite easy to tell the difference. We threw out all the fakes and cooked up a killer meal of scrambled eggs with potatoes, onion, and fresh chanterelle mushroom. Hooray for foraging!

The next day we continued our drive down the Oregon Coast, bellies full, but gear pretty wet.

So last night round the campfire there was a lot of big chat from the other cyclists about waking up at 5:45am and leaving by 7am but when I was out of my tent at 9:30am they were still there which we found very entertaining! According to them they had gotten up earlier and eaten breakfast and then decided to go back to bed but do we believe them?
