... as the original planners had hoped. They then got behind in their ‘rates’ to the city and gave up a big piece of land as payment.

We had a photo stop at a viewpoint on Mt Tolmie– which would have been great if it had not been so overcast. From there we could see Mt Doug and were told we could drive up it after midday – the road was closed to vehicles in the morning and was popular with walkers then.

Because that is all I did on my first day in Victoria, I didn't really form any opinions about it. It seemed like a nice city as we drove through it. I am not sure what I was expecting and I am not sure if it lived up to or disappointed me at this early stage.

... to see orcas we ended up back at the wharf with 10 minutes to spare. During our walk from the bike rental store back to the wharf it began to rain. It wasnt that big ol'fat rain thankfully and it wasnt heavy either but it was constant, enough to get you damp and to be a little annoying. ... a cost of $60 but I was more interested in 'Low Beer'. Not much further on is the British Columbia Parliament buildings, home to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. This is a beautiful ornate building designed by Francis Rattenbury, the same bloke who designed the Empress Hotel.
