Te Anau to Invercargill
... stop was Monkey Island beach. At low tide you can get onto the island for a great lookout. It looked like we could get onto it. The little stream of water we could see around the rocks was deceiving – it was deeper and wider than it looked and the tide was coming in. So we headed off again to Colac Bay. A surfer statue announced we’d arrived at Colac Bay. It was a large sweeping bay, but not much surf today.

Pretty Shitty City
Invercargill was a lot like Swansea, ****. Only differences are that we didn't get asked for '8p for the phone butt' and we didn't see any blood or violence as we entered the town.

... an early night because I was exhausted. On Saturday I went to football again but ended up refereeing this time! It was good fun actually and gave me a look throught the eyes of those I tend to give a bit of stick to most weekends. That afternoon I made sure I caught the Highlanders super rugby game (I'm a big fan already). They won against a good team, why couldn't they do that when I was at the game the week before?! ... in der schoenen Hilltop Unterkunft verbringen. Doch alle Bunkbeds waren belegt und an eine Vorreservierung in der Nebensaison habe ich nicht gedacht. So musste ich weiter radeln, vorbei an Papatowai, ueber den Florence Lookout mit Blick zum Tautuku Beach, zur naechsten Unterkunft. Der McLeans Holiday Park ist 2 km von den Cathedral Caves entfernt und meine Ankunftszeit war perfekt bemessen um noch zu duschen und um 15 Uhr bei niedrigstem Ebbestand die Hoehlen ...

... headed inland to tuatapere..
lunch was clifden suspension bridge built in 1899 and closed to traffic now and also where the numbered highway ends.. we drove on to manapouri where we got our first glimpse of the snow capped hunter mountains and cathedral peaks..and then on to te anau a more lively town with three camp sites a large shopping centre and a cinema..we choose the camp site next to the lake and enjoyed the views as we ate dinner..
