I managed to get a hold of Parks, who was renting a car in Pearisburg, and he gave me, Fozzie, Jersey Girl, Electric Lizard, Mooch, Ahab and more a ride to Damascus for Trail Days on Thursday, the day before everything really got started. Parks showed how awesome he is once more as he made the trip to Damascus from Pearisburg three times, shuttling full car loads each time, a trip of almost two hours each way. ... and delicious meal. That night it didn't even rain like it potentially was supposed to, so I didn't even have to bother with wet gear. I did, however, get up in the middle of the night for the first time all trail. ... easier terrain, and I just did it. And as I said, it was easy, and I wasn't sore or extra tired or anything afterward. The hostel bunkhouse left something to be desired, being almost just a shed with some plastic mattresses on rattly bunkbeds and no heat, but the main house was warm with comfy couches and I got a shower and was able to order a bacon cheeseburger from a restaurant nearby, so it worked out.
