... night rolled to an end around 5 in the morn, after Seb made everyone eggs for a late night snacky snack. ("ok who's next, how do you want them?") We flipped on our spa channel (which was having a bit of a whack night) and climbed into bed.

When we woke up, as expected, Sumner Lake and our surroundings were beautiful. We all took a dip in the chilly water (I was in an out a few times, just floating around) and Sumner launched himself off a high rock...into himself. I've ...

Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, United States dhjv62a... there was no sign to tell us to turn off at a campground area to find it, we drove about 18 miles from town before turning around. The drive was through fure treed areas with meadows here and there. No real traffic but did find it was a cattle grazing area with cows and baby calves in various places. Had to stop at one point for a calf standing in the middle of the road.

Came back along the road and turned down toward the ...
Dolores, Colorado, United States rballard29... rock monolith simply being in the middle of flat land surrounding this feature. This monolith is inaccessible to the public because it is a sacred site. The best view for us is the view we had from the highway. A great welcome in the information centre and armed with our State road map and information on our target for the day, being the National Monument park of Mesa Verde. Morning tea done in the Welcome centre and we set off to take in more of ...
Mancos, Colorado, United States heritia8... take have contradictory information. So little is known about how they lived, why they built on the cliffs and why they suddenly disappeared. We took tours of Cliff Palace and Balcony House and we had to ascend/descent wooden ladders (one was 32 feet high) to get into them. The Puebloans didn't use ladders they had hand and toe holes on the side of the rocks that got them around. Amazing! How they could ...
Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, United States gra8ful... now turned wine maker and restaurant entrepreneur. He gave us a tour of his small aging barn and expounded on the virtues of French oak barrels over those made from American oak. At this point, another couple from Alabama arrived and asked if they could join the tasting and John led us into his office which doubles as his tasting room. He poured whites, rosés, and reds, all the while telling us about the five star ...
Cortez, Colorado, United States pfl_guy... access to the sites and also the fragility of the ruins. We were happy to pay as we knew we would get maximum benefit from all the knowledge of the rangers. We were right as they were both excellent. If you have never heard of Mesa Verde then it is somewhere you should go if you are ever coming to the States. It is a remarkable place. The Puebloan Indians built sandstone-block houses into the side of the cliffs way up high under the flat tops ...
Cortez, Colorado, United States manningnz... the park and the "Loop." So many areas across the canyon where ancient people once lived. Then a gotta get out and walk opportunity comes up at Soda Canyon Overlooks. This short 3/4 mile trail takes you to the Canyon's edge. But if you stay on the trail, it leads to a fenced off viewing area, which ruins the photo. We were VERY careful not to "bust the crust." Stepping on large stones and not on any flora or fauna. The view from her at the edge were ...
Mesa Verde, Colorado, United States kupdegra... you know I do not like heights & ladders (happy to look out of a viewing platform in a skyscraper, HATE anything I know I can fall off of!), so my legs were starting to shake while waiting for my turn to climb it. This was a wide ladder and you went two up at a time. Josh and Kate went at the same time, with Fred right behind Kate. A nice man asked me if I wanted him to go right behind Josh, but by that time Josh was halfway up the ladder! Both kids were not at all ...
