A Day Trip
... squadron. The oldest crew member was 23, the youngest 19. On the way back to base it was diverted to another airfield. On the way there an engine caught fire and the plane crashed killing all 7 crew members. They had never seen any action. War is such a waste of life in any circumstances but to die in training seems to make the loss all the more tragic.

Another let down
Talked about the Heartbeat train and how it runs past the cottage near Whitby in a previous entry. Last time in 2009 it was Santa specials when we were there, this time it is closed all of November. I seem doomed never to ride on it but will try again in Spring.
