Farm Cathkin, Central Drakensberg KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
My knowledge of history is pretty poor at the best of times so it's a good job we sat down and watched 'Zulu' before we left the UK giving me at least some idea of the area we were heading to see and what went on there. After watching the film though I'm afraid I struggled to feel any emotional attachment to what happened at Rorke's Drift (Zulus, thaaasands of 'em, attacking a British ...
Rorke's Drift, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa claireandian... over the course of the morning, I even ended up enjoying the experience. Although I have to admit I have been walking a bit strangely since! I am writing this from St Lucia which is a marine reserve up near the border with Mozambique. We got here yesterday and today has been fantastic. We went hippo and crocodile watching this morning from a boat, we saw both which was really exciting. Then we went for a drive down the coast where you drive through a game reserve which ...
St. Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa littlemisbakpakHappy Halloween! Instead of celebrating Halloween Nikki and I were the special guests in her mom's 3rd grade classroom. The students are currently studying Native Americans, therefore it was exciting to have an American guest. We came in for the art lesson and had the students make Tipi's, totem poll drawings, and feather hand-bands that displayed the Native ...
Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa whitneyhl... while doing an overnight hike. The hostel is your only choice in Northern Drakensberg. It's nice and clean - only a curtain on the bathroom door though. Food was okay. Nothing around it though so you need to bring cash with you, no ATM. Can get cold at there so a jumper is handy. Bar is nice - has a jacuzzi in the middle of it which is quite strange and two computers with Internet. As it is the only hostel you will meet people. We ...
Northern Drakensberg, South Africa francescahunt... and the San Bushman rock art site. Plenty more wildlife was to be seen, loads of photo opportunities, more Castle and wine drinking and the chance to soak up the mountain air and relax before the long trip back to Jo-burg and home.. a perfect end to a perfect holiday
Drakensberg Mountains, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa clarefun22My Safara was absolutely amazing. We saw 4 of the Big 5, minus the leopard which I could care less about. I saw the elephants and so my life is complete. We have a photo of 3 of the 5 together by one brook. Our guide asked us to send it to him because that's never happend. It was an Elephant bull, 2 white Rhinos and a lioness. Amazing. I'm glad I didn't get malaria or sunburn so I'd say my trip was an absolute success!
Kwazulu- Natal, South Africa cudiebug23... doubtful but laughing is more likely!) coz I think one of us would've been stupid enough last night to do a runner into the ocean - I don't even know whether there's still shark nets up to be honest!!!! Giggles, giggles and more giggles, so far - that's all we've done - not to mention talking the biggest load of **** under the sun but hey, what are holiday's for right? Tamsyn OUT!

Durban, South Africa whereslisaTo get a bit of the safari experience for Mum and Dad we stayed at this park and went for a couple of game drives. This park has lots of elephants, rhino, giraffe and we also saw lions and a hyena as well as lots of antelopes and monkeys. The elephants put on a special show during the evening game drive, surrounding the safari vehicle and chasing each other whilst trumpeting. Later in the evening our way back to the camp ...
Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park, South Africa mpoelzl... colour doesn't make me a tourist. It doesn't mean that I can't speak the language. I'm not quite sure what people think when they see me, but I know they don't instantly think I'm a tourist. I can't even begin to assume what the race implications are among the black people. But the strangest part for me now is to be able to blend into society and speak the language to the people. I also have to mention that South Africa is vastly ...
