My friend Diane just reminded me that I hadn't finished the story with the jade earrings. Here is a photo of the finished product. I love them. The jade is actually a very pale green color (all jade starts out white and is affected by other minerals as to the colors). The settings are silver and I am very happy with them indeed.
Spokane, Washington, United States nomadgal... br> Leaving Saturday for L.A. where I'll meet up with Terry Chamorro and stay at her place Saturday night. Sunday morning we have a 7:45am flight out of LAX which means going to the airport at 5:45am. Ungodly time. We are flying on Mexicana Airlines via Mexico City to Guatemala City.
Not exactly sure yet where we'll meet up with Rose and Jim....probably at LAX before the flight.
Finally got the truck back, all fixed and running beautifully. Decided to get on the road, though it was already 2 pm. Headed south along Flathead Lake through green forests and valleys to I-90, then west, west, west. All uphill, what a climb, to Coeur d'Alene in Idaho, then downhill into Washington State. Spent almost two hours trying to find Riverside State Park in the city of Spokane, finally set up the camper and tried to settle down for the night.
Spokane, Washington, United States denisita... halls full of culinary arts, horticulture, poultry barn, beer garden etc. We went to the critter corner and there were birds and reptiles including Big Al an alligator reared from birth and available for a photo – Lily and Fynn were first up (Edie not so keen) and sat with Big Al on their laps.
We did not have too much time at the Fair as we had promised to be with mum and dad at the Armstrong’s (Karen and Jack’s) cabin in Plains for supper so with ...
... actually Ian in a dreadful wig) put us through our paces. Everyone in the group – myself, Nancy, Sig, Elizabeth, Fred and Travis (the wrangler at the rear) went for about four amazing long loping runs. We went up and down the steepest of treks, which you had to rely (hope) that the horses knew what they were doing. We finished at a meadow for a barbecue and then rode the horses back to the ranch.
While this ride took place the boys (Tim ...
The golf trip was organised by Steve and I was looking forward to a decent round of golf at a local course to see if my game could recover from the disastrous run I'd been having in England. So four of us (Tim, Rob, Steve and I) set off at lunchtime in Jim’s hire car to drive the supposed 45-minute route around the lake with Tim driving. Tim normally drives an Aston ...

The Western style of riding is significantly different to the English riding style. Prior to our trip to the USA Ian and I had spent a fortune at Wimbledon Stables riding two hours at a time and paying the price physically and it was not long into our first ride that we realised that it had it been a complete waste of money. We did not need to bob up and down when trotting, our reign was to be long when ...
... the kids were cooking smores (called smores from the term “do you want somemore – s’mores) This is a gooey cocktail of charcoaled marshmellows with a layer of chocolate wedged between two sweet biscuits - great for the kids as they roasted their own marshmellows on twigs. Fun evening finishing with us all crashing into the crisp linen and soft mattress after a warm, clean shower with crisp towels (things we used to take for granted.
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, United States prieststrip... a whinny, woof or purr. I enjoy the open-space, the fresh air, the critters to keep you company. Last night, for instance, I went out on the runway and found myself in a real-life planetarium, and had one of those awestruck moments where I could not take my eyes off the sky. Mac, the newest addition to the small troupe of felines, found me and meowed questionably, and started ...
