... that it is reasonably safe and I probably should have done that bit on my own. Well you live and you learn.
Today we reached Fez which was only about two hours from our previous bush camp. <Drum roll> THE CAMPSITE HAD WESTERN TOILETS AND HOT SHOWERS! I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to walk into a filthy campsite shower in my life! Hot water! The bathrooms were exquisite after 5 days without a ...

Meknes, Morocco cariverga... same price as we'd paid on the trip there). Arrived back at the hotel to meet the others and take a short bus trip to the train station where we caught a train (came right on time at 11am) for an hour long trip to Rabat. We then had to walk to a nearby hotel (Mike was cursing my large bag) where we left our bags and had an orientation walk through the markets (stopped for lunch and mint tea), a beautiful garden and ...
Meknes, Morocco leone_and_mike... first palm tree" type of guidance). With no GPS, no numbered highways (why number them on the map if that's the case?), and having to triangulate the true direction each and every time we got turned around, we finally got our luxury Flintstone mobile pointed generally south and toward the Middle Atlas Mountains making our way to the next stop - Meknes.
Meknes, Morocco vmarchal... that you lived and experience real Moroccan life and culture. Because, as the pretty 25 year old Moroccan girl has found out, you can find love but you cannot fulfil its promise. Under the surface of any experience there is probably tension and 'events, events dear boy' that you cannot know about or control. Still looking for that authentic experience? Well, you have just found it...it is all around you...and it will find you...not the other way around.
Fes, Morocco simon.mcpherson... snapped photos of us, and lead us into closed off parts of the palace which had not yet been restored. In this manner, we saw the yet-to-be restored mosque and hammam (bath). As well, when no one was looking, he removed the rope barriers in the harem ...
Meknes, Meknes, Morocco wendy_wanders... restaurant Marhaba. Our first experience of the tajine was delicious and there was plenty of atmosphere due to a televised soccer game. While still in the restaurant we finally got in contact with Dom and Lisa who coincidentally were staying in the same hotel as us. They came to join us for tea before a much needed sleep.
Meknes, Morocco leahandgreg... the far side by the graveyard. We had to walk all the way around the graveyard to get back to where we wanted to be. It turned out to be the best thing as we came across a viewpoint that looked down into the surrounding valley. The view from there was spectacular. This brings to a close another chapter of this apparently very long book. I cannot wait until our 4am bus ride to Fes so we can get back to Chefchaunen. It should be a very fun day tommorow....
Meknes, Morocco beautiful_freak... nial !
