Hamam and Dinners

... then sat and Mohammad cooked for us a tradition Morrocan feast, we had soup again for starters with lentals and chick peas in it then he brought out some salad of tomatoes and peppers covered in olive oil and lemon, some bread and a big tagine of beef with olives and peas and green beans it was an amazing meal and both Ian and I stuffed our faces full. We are off tomorrow to fez on the train and it takes 7 hours so we need to get some rest.

... nuances of the U.S. military's fleet of 27+ satellites (a.k.a. Global Positioning System) that gratuitously allows folks all over the World to happily seek Tupperware in the woods (i.e. geocaching) - or in this case, the dry wasteland of the nearby sand dunes. Indeed, as I repeatedly shouted "Faites-moi confiance - SURPRISE!", he clearly thought I was nuts. Nonetheless (for 150 Dh) he prudently kept mum and dutifully ...

Horse riding, fish market and a punch up

... amazing – we had to buy the fish and then pay a small amount to have it cooked, but to feed the four of us with more fish and prawns than you could want, a salad each, chips each, bread, a big bottle of water and a couple of cokes it was less than £10 between us.

John has never ridden a camel before – so after lunch we make our way back to the beach and take a camel ride for half an hour. Half an hour is more than enough – I don’t think it helped ...

Seventh Day - Essaouira trip

At 7 A.M. we already left the hotel to move north to the ancient port town Essaouira. It was a Pirate port and has a lot of history to tell and to show us.

The trip was much more dangerously now. The Serpentine is so scary, and the driver of the bus drives like a mad man, but of course, he's just very experienced, but sitting near the window made some people almost sick. The road took ...

Heading to the coast

... a little wind.  It was a great way to end our trip.  A breath of fresh air. We took the train back up to Casablanca and flew out the next morning.  We barely caught our connections each time and from now on will book our trip on one flight ticket, instead of buying separate US and international tickets.  Even though this may be more expensive, any delays on one leg would be caught by the next airline and they will know where we are and be more forgiving ...

Stepping back in time

Breakfast was surprisingly wonderful in my little hotel along the road, I got a very nice French Crepe, a thin crispy pancake, and a fruit salad. The bus to my next destination Essaouira left at 8 am but I didn't want to spoil the day with the sound of an alarm clock. I was sure there would be some other possibility to get there, and I was right. It was the time of some mutton-eating festival in ...

Morocco - days 8 to 12

... tried to take off as we were setting them up. The ground was also very stony and hard so it was entertaining to say the least. The 2 German guys in the campsite behind us found it especially amusing. Most nights we would all sit around on the ground or on folding chairs and chat, but it was so windy the first night that we ended up hanging out in the truck. The cook group also struggled to cook the dinner as the flames from the burner were being ...

... or argan, cloves, cinnamon and some other stuff. At first, it was all about the novelty of being covered in black muck that smells like Christmas baking. Then Chris asked "is anyone else burning up?" which brought me great relief because I was starting to fear that I was having an allergic reaction - this stuff completely heats you up! I guess I would liken the heat and scent, as far-stretched as it is, to crushing up those cinnamon hearts you see at Valentine's day and ...

We're in Africa!

... poor men were submerged to their waists in filthy water working with the hides...and then demanded his 20 dirhams (2 euros) before dropping us off at his mate's leather shop...where the goods were beautiful, I must admit, but I had been put off by seeing the process! Plus the shopkeeper didn't seem to be much of a barterer and wasn't keen on giving me a good deal on a pouf...so we managed to escape the leather area and proceeded to wander through the labrynthine maze ...
