... German garb, and sat right near us. The church was packed!! The opening processional included many dressed up folks. We tried to follow along, but there was no Act of Contrition, Gloria or even the first two readings and psalm-- it was almost as if they were acted out by three young men. There was a gospel, but before the gospel, the priest went up to two of the young readers and pretended to elbow them to the ground, in an attempt to explain part of the ...

... ride was talking to a lovely, older couple from British Columbia, and finally getting a seat after 30 minutes of standing on this hot train. We arrived in Milan and quickly boarded train number two. We didn't get water as we knew we'd be in first class and would have food service. Lovely first class!! Assigned seats, air conditioned car, food service, delicious coffee (at noon!!!), and fabulous sandwiches. And what were we thinking only getting ONE small bottle ...

... to Verona a change of trains and then on to Milano. Our taxi driver was a bit late because of traffic. He decided to take us down the Roman road to avoid the main roads. This was small and in Aus is it would be one lane/way only. Not here! He gave us a lovely history lesson on the way. He once again raised the issue that these people feel like Southern Austrians rather than Italians. We made the station ...

... mountain chalet to old Italian. We decided that as we had walked down all the way we should catch a bus back to Pergine to explore. We now realise that everything shuts for lunch here from about 12.30 to 4pm. We arrived in Pergine after going around the larger lake by bus and - with everything shut - we went into a grocery shop and bought cheese, crackers, olive caper paste and roasted zucchinis. ... white is used to appear there - the Sala del trono (Throne Room), and the Chapel of St. Andrew on the first floor. The five rooms on the second floor and the garden are used as exhibition venues. You can imagine that our cameras really got a work out as soon as we arrived. We were delighted to see the other side of the Dolomites to yesterday's ride around from our room.
