... of time and settled in for our 2 x 1 and 1/2 hr train trips. Two things that have amazed us here are 1. The number of vineyards and grapes - they are everywhere! Soooooo many grapes, no wonder local wine is cheap here. 2. The number of castles - if there is a flat or even a small ridge or shelf up high there is a castle on it!! Our Tyrolian adventure is over as we have now travelled from North to South ...

... mountain chalet to old Italian. We decided that as we had walked down all the way we should catch a bus back to Pergine to explore. We now realise that everything shuts for lunch here from about 12.30 to 4pm. We arrived in Pergine after going around the larger lake by bus and - with everything shut - we went into a grocery shop and bought cheese, crackers, olive caper paste and roasted zucchinis. ... a castle hill, through some tunnels and vineyard paths. It was here that a fence jumped out and attacked Sue. She now sports a few grazes up and down her arms and face. In Kaltern Sue followed a path where Bryan who was leading had turned off. She soon realised and stopped thinking someone would find her. I think the original goals of the frescos was to help the rather lowly Vintler brothers gain status in the Tyrolean aristocracy, but if you look closely you can learn a lot about about the culture and styles of the day.
